It was a moment of enlightenment to realize that Stanley (the router has to have a name) could cut heavy case leather (1/8 - 1/4 inch thick) with such ease and precision.
If you haven't tried these new saws, you should give them a try. They have a really agressive tooth, but Watch Out! those teeth are sharp!!! I made a case for my father-in-law and of course, had to carve his name on it. Then I realized that I could cut out the whole thing on Stanley, and drill the stitching holes too, and make them match the mating side perfectly as well. I hope that you see the benefit in having a custom-made saw sleeve in heavy leather.
Go wild! Put on the nickname you always wanted!
Here is a quick case I made for some rubber balls that have very different formulations, making the "unhappy ball" very low bounce and the "happy ball" being your more normal bounce. The "unhappy ball" also has a higher coefficient of friction. This is all explained on the rolled up piece of paper under the names. The balls are 1 inch diameter. The material is Azek PVC (fake wood) of 1 inch nominal dimension. You can see this was some scrap used for the test run of the carving of the leather for "Pops Ireland's" saw sleeve.
